St John's Foundation Bath & North East Somerset

Changing Lives. For Good.

For over 850 years, St John's Foundation has been supporting people across Bath and North East Somerset. Today, our purpose is simple: to change lives, for good. We provide safe and affordable homes for older people, activities that promote wellbeing and connection, and practical support for people experiencing hardship.

As we continue to strengthen our impact and plan for the future, we are seeking a new Trustee to join our Board.

This is an opportunity to contribute to an organisation that combines a long history of service with a clear focus on addressing current and emerging community needs. Our Trustees play a vital role in helping ensure the Foundation remains well governed, financially sustainable and focused on delivering meaningful outcomes for the people we serve.

About the Role

We are looking for a qualified accountant with significant senior leadership experience in finance, audit, risk and financial governance.

You are likely to have experience as a:

  • Finance Director
  • Chief Financial Officer
  • Director of Finance
  • Audit Partner
  • Or in a comparable senior financial leadership role

As a Trustee, you will contribute to the strategic leadership and governance of the Foundation, helping to ensure we remain financially sustainable and focused on delivering meaningful impact for the people and communities we serve.

It is anticipated that the successful candidate will become a member of the Audit & Risk Committee, supporting the Board's oversight of:

  • Financial performance
  • Financial sustainability
  • Risk management
  • Internal controls
  • Governance and assurance

About You

Alongside your professional expertise, you will:

  • Bring sound judgement and strategic perspective
  • Be comfortable providing constructive challenge and independent thinking
  • Share our commitment to improving lives across Bath and North East Somerset
  • Be motivated by the opportunity to use your skills to make a meaningful difference

Previous Trustee or Non-Executive Director experience is welcome but not essential. We would particularly encourage applications from individuals with the expertise and values we are seeking who may be considering their first Board appointment.

Commitment

  • Approximately 2 days per month
  • 4 Board meetings per year (in person)
  • 2 Board Away Days per year (in person)
  • Membership of at least one Committee (4 meetings per year)

Committee meetings allow for a hybrid format, where required, to support participation from Trustees who are balancing professional and personal commitments.

Equality, Diversity and Inclusion

We believe that diversity of thought, background and experience strengthens decision-making and helps us better serve our communities. We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds and experiences.

If you require any reasonable adjustments during the application or interview process, please let us know.

To apply, please send your CV, along with a covering letter by 30th October 2026.

We reserve the right to close applications at any time upon appointment of a suitable candidate, therefore early applications are encouraged
