Lecturer in Low-Carbon Hydrogen Technology

About the role

The University of Bath has developed a substantial hydrogen research and innovation portfolio, underpinned by major programmes including UK-HyRES, GW-SHIFT, ZENITH, alongside hydrogen-related aviation and propulsion projects across the Faculty of Engineering and Design, and supported by dedicated research and innovation infrastructure including hydrogen research lab and IAAPS.

We are seeking an outstanding and collaborative Lecturer in low-carbon Hydrogen Technology with a deliberately broad remit spanning fundamental, applied and translational research and innovation.

Relevant areas may include, but are not limited to:

• Low-carbon hydrogen production, including electrolysis, catalysis and other low-carbon production technologies;
• fuel cells and electrochemical energy conversion;
• hydrogen storage and distribution technologies;
• diagnostics, degradation, durability and operando/in-situ characterisation;
• hydrogen safety, sensing and enabling technologies;
• novel experimental and engineering approaches for hydrogen technologies.

The successful candidate will be expected to:

• establish an independent and technically distinctive research programme in hydrogen energy;
• contribute actively to the existing UK-HyRES research portfolio and develop new collaborative activity through the Hub;
• develop new experimental capability and make effective use of Bath’s existing research infrastructure;
• generate high-quality research outputs and build a strong trajectory towards UKRI, Innovate UK, Horizon Europe and industrial funding;
• develop collaborations with existing hydrogen researchers across Bath and the wider UK-HyRES community;
• build industrial partnerships and translate research towards practical hydrogen technologies;
• supervise PhD students and postdoctoral researchers and contribute to relevant undergraduate and postgraduate teaching;
• develop towards future academic and research leadership.

You will be based in one of the four departments within the Faculty of Engineering and Design.

Together with a full CV, please provide two statements, each of up to two pages:

• A research statement which should include your vision and plans including an outline of how you will establish independent research at Bath. Your research statement needs to outline your plans and intentions for research activity and grant capture over the coming five years. This document will be treated in the strictest confidence and with full respect for ownership.
• A teaching and EDI statement. This document should outline your teaching vision and plans. Please describe how you incorporate principles of equality, diversity, and inclusion into your daily activities, especially when training and working with students and researchers. Please also outline how you have contributed to creating a positive, respectful, and collegiate environment for all staff and students.

Both documents are mandatory components of the selection process, without which we will be unable to progress your application.
